Still Uncovered Tour: Stages of Object Treatment in the Conservation Lab

Discover the Still in a whole new way with an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience! Each Still Uncovered Tour begins with a 60-minute guided exploration of the building and galleries, focusing on Still’s work, the architecture, and the unique nature of the collection and the Museum. The second portion invites guests to engage with specialized staff in secure Museum spaces not open to the public.

During the September tour, go into the Conservation Lab to view objects in various stages of treatment and learn about the process of analyzing an object in different stages with members of the Museum’s conservation team. The featured objects include:

– PH-254: This painting is in the early stage of treatment. View surface changes and observe obvious and not-so-obvious changes happening on the painting’s surface.
– PH-1026: This painting is in mid-treatment. Learn more about the treatment that has already taken place and understand more of what’s happening on the painting’s surface.
– PH-1001 and PHX-80FA (Small cutouts of farmer figure and horses): Learn more about the conservation process of these objects, including the factors at play, artist intent, and how both pieces are being treated to honor Still’s intention related to a more “complete” work.

Still Uncovered Tours provide unique opportunities for guests to engage deeply with both the public and private sides of the Museum. Tours are limited to 10 people and require registration. Tours are available from 3–4:30 p.m. on the 2nd Friday of each month and open to visitors 13 and older.

Tour admission: $50 adults, $40 CSM members, and free for teens 13-17 (teens must be accompanied by an adult).
